Setting Up Audio Preview

Learn how to configure audio preview so you can hear your projects without opening your DAW. This guide covers preview folder setup, auto vs manual mode, and the global audio player.

One of Mixvisor’s most useful features is the ability to preview your project audio without launching a DAW. Here’s how to set it up.

The Preview Folder Pattern

Mixvisor looks for audio files in specific folders inside your projects. By default, it searches for:

  • Preview
  • Bounces
  • Exports
  • Mixdowns
  • Renders

Configuring Preview Settings

  1. Go to Settings > Preview
  2. Add or remove folder names to match your workflow
  3. Supported formats: WAV, MP3, AIFF, FLAC, M4A

Auto vs Manual Mode

Auto Mode (Default)

Mixvisor automatically selects the most recent audio file from your preview folder. This works well if you always bounce to the same location.

Manual Mode

If you have multiple bounces and want to choose which one to preview:

  1. Click on a project to open its details
  2. In the Preview section, switch to Manual
  3. Select the specific file you want to use

Using the Global Player

When you play a preview, a player bar appears at the bottom of the screen:

  • Waveform: Visual representation of the audio with seek capability
  • Play/Pause: Control playback
  • Track Info: Shows the file name and project
  • Persistent: Stays visible as you browse other projects

Best Practices

  • Bounce a stereo mix every time you finish a session
  • Use consistent folder names across projects
  • Delete old bounces you no longer need to keep things clean

With preview properly configured, you can audition hundreds of projects in the time it would take to open a single DAW session.
