Mixvisor

Managing Multiple Root Folders

Learn how to organize projects across multiple drives, cloud folders, and directories. Mixvisor supports unlimited root folders with different scan settings for each.

If your projects live in multiple locations—external drives, cloud sync folders, or different directories for different clients—Mixvisor handles it all.

Adding Root Folders

  1. Go to Settings > Root Folders
  2. Click Add Folder
  3. Select the directory containing your projects
  4. Configure scan settings for this folder

Scan Modes

Each root folder can have its own scan mode:

Immediate Mode

  • Scans only direct children of the root folder
  • Faster scanning
  • Best for flat folder structures where each subfolder is a project

Recursive Mode

  • Scans nested folders up to a configurable depth
  • Finds deeply nested projects
  • Best for hierarchical structures (e.g., Year > Month > Project)

Setting Max Depth

For recursive scanning, set a max depth to avoid scanning too deeply:

  • Depth 1: Same as immediate mode
  • Depth 2-3: Good for most structures
  • Depth 4+: Use carefully, may be slow with many folders

Enabling/Disabling Folders

Temporarily hide projects from a root folder without removing it:

  1. Go to Settings > Root Folders
  2. Toggle the folder off
  3. Projects from that folder won’t appear in your library
  4. Toggle back on anytime

Path Overlap Detection

Mixvisor prevents duplicate projects by detecting when root folders overlap. If you try to add a folder that’s already inside another root, you’ll see a warning.

Use Cases

  • External Drives: Add your project drive when connected, disable when disconnected
  • Client Folders: Separate root for each client’s projects
  • Archive vs Active: Keep archived projects in a separate root with its own settings
